Club News
Books for Kinders is a signature program of the Rotary Club of Sahuarita to promote literacy and early childhood education. Grandpa Gardner is the author of "What a Seed Needs to Know" and a member of the Club. Over the past 3 years, through a Rotary District 5500 Grant and matching funds from our Club, we have been able to distribute almost 1,500 copies of the book to every child in Kindergarten. The first year, the book was in English only. The past two years (and this year upcoming) the book is bilingual English and Spanish. Each Kinder receives a copy of the book, a tote, a 12-pack of Crayola color pencils , and a write-and-draw your own Garden Story. This year each Kinder classroom will also receive a "Root View". During this school year, a member of the Rotary Club will read the book in all Kinder classrooms in Sahuarita and Continental in English and Spanish.
The Rotary Club of Sahuarita is a vibrant community service organization dedicated to making a positive impact in our local area and beyond.
Our members come together to foster goodwill, promote ethical standards, and support initiatives that align with Rotary International's motto of "Service Above Self."

One of our key activities is organizing roadside cleanups to keep our community's highways and byways pristine.

These events not only beautify the environment but also build camaraderie among volunteers as we work side by side to protect our natural surroundings.

We place a club focus on early childhood education and literacy, recognizing their foundational role in building brighter futures. Through our "Books for Kinders" program, we provide age-appropriate books to young children, sparking a lifelong love of reading and learning.

In addition, we assist several other clubs and programs tailored to local needs, including food drives, youth mentorship, and support for veterans and families in crisis. These efforts address a range of community challenges, from hunger relief to health and wellness.

We're always looking to expand our reach and welcome new members who share our passion for service.

An estimated 500 million people worldwide became infected. Many cities closed theaters and cinemas, and placed restrictions on public gatherings. Rotary clubs adjusted their activities while also helping the sick.

This is how Rotary responded to the influenza pandemic that began in 1918 and came in three waves, lasting more than a year.

Rotary and the United Nations have a shared history of working toward peace and addressing humanitarian issues around the world.

During World War II, Rotary informed and educated members about the formation of the United Nations and the importance of planning for peace. Materials such as the booklet “From Here On!” and articles in The Rotarian helped members understand the UN before it was formally established and follow its work after its charter.

Many countries were fighting the war when the term “United Nations” was first used officially in the 1942 “Declaration by United Nations.” The 26 nations that signed it pledged to uphold the ideals expressed by the United States and the United Kingdom the previous year of the common principles “on which they based their hopes for a better future for the world.”

Every hero has an origin story. “I was 10 years old when the entire journey started,” explains Binish Desai. It began with a cartoon called Captain Planet, an animated TV series from the 1990s about an environmentalist with superpowers. Desai can still recite the show’s refrain: Captain Planet, he’s our hero / Gonna take pollution down to zero! “That tagline stuck in my mind,” he says. “I wanted to do something to help Captain Planet.”
